When performing a melting point on a solid compound, 2 melting point determinations were made on this compound. One sample, which was 1 mm in height in the capillary, possessed a melting point of 141-142 degree C. The other sample was 5 mm in height. What would you expect the approximate melting point to be for this sample, assuming correct procedure? For the same solid compound as the question above, if a 1 mm sample was not compacted well, what would you expect for an approximate melting point?

Since other sample is 5mm in height so the probable melting point would be 3 degreeC more than first measurement . So it will be 143-144 degreeC

If the sample is not compact then it would take more time to heat up and may wider melting points
