Question
Give of characteristics Agatha. Distinguish between gray and white matter. Information is sent from receptor to CNS by neuron A) Association B) motor sensory C) sensory D) glial A chordate retaining all 4 derived in adult A) lancelet B) C) hag fish D) Lamprey 2nd largest part of brain helps in balancing A) cerebellum B) thalamus C) cerebrum D) medulla Distinguish between sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions. Write a note on reticular formation. What are primary and association areas in cerebral cortex. Explain with an example. Body is covered with me glands and has 4 tentacles around mouth A) lancelet B) C) hag fist D) lamprey Notochord and nerve cord exist in tail of larva inExplanation / Answer
2. Grey matter is made up of nerve cell bodies where as white matter is made up of fibre.
Unlike the white matter, neurons of grey matter do not have extended axons.
Grey matter occupies 40% of brain whereas white matter fills 60% of brain.
Grey matter has grey colour due to grey nuclei that comprises the cells whereas myelin is responsible for white colour of white matter.
Grey matter has no myelin sheet where as white matter has myelin sheets.
Processing is concluded in grey matter, where as white matter allow communication to and from the grey matter, between grey matter and others parts of body.
3. Sensory neuron carry the information from receptor to CNS
4. Lancelets are marine organism that possess all the features of chordate. Larva tunicate posses all 4 characterstic but adult tunicates only have phyrangeal slits.
5. Cerebellum is a second largest part of brain that help in balancing and poisture maintaince.
1. Class agnatha is a ancient group of animal similiar to fish but with some differences. Jaws are absent, paired fins are generally absent, early species had heavy bony scales and plates in their skin but is absent in living species, they lack internal skeleton of bone, instead of jaw they have cytoplasmic toothed mouth with which they bore into the side of the fish and suck the blood of their victim. In most cases skeleton is cartilaginous, embryonic notochord persist in adults, seven or more pared gill pouches are present and digestive system lack of stomach.
6. Parasympathetic nervous system is one of the two main division of autonomic nervous system. Its function is to control homeostasis and body rest and digest response whereas sympathetic nervous system mobilize body fight or flight response.
Parasympathetic nervous system control body response while at rest whereas sympathetic nervous system control body response during percieved threats.
Parasympathetic nervous system orginates in sacral region of spinal cord , medulla, and carnial nerve 3,7,9 and 10 whereas sympathetic nervous system originate in thoracic and lumber region of spinal cord.
Parasympathetic system is longer pathway and slower system whereas sympathetic system has short neuron but faster system.
PNS cause counterbalance, restore body to state of calm where as SNS speed up, tensed up become more alert.
PNS decrease heart rate whereas SNS increase the heart rate.
9. Hag fish has slime glands and have 4 tentacles around mouth.
