Explanation / Answer

Ans 1: Community based corrections is for offences that are low in risk, non violent and non dangerous. The primary purpose of this is to help the probationer's and assist them to be involved and integrated once again with the community.
The reason is simply because of the fact that these community based programs, by assisting the offender to be integrated with the community, it will develop into a positive contact with the family and close friends. If you look at prisoners in jail, there is a different kind of growth and personal development. Butcommunity programmes result in a wider range of services related to the social well being as well as the overall psychological developments and needs.

Ans 2: Factors that contribute to the growth of community based corrections are:
1. Financial subsides that are provided to community agencies for carrying out the projects.
2. The voluntarily participation of the communities with the option of withdrawing any time freely.
3. The society has observed, noticed and agreed that prisons are viewed destructive and not the best option for the overall recovery of not only the offenders but the society as well.

Ans 3: If I were living in the times of John Augustus and Matthew Davenport Hill, I would definitely support their actions. But the problem lies with trust and personal wellfare as well as that of the family. Keeping this in mind about the insecurities they possess and the comfort of the family, it would definitely be hard for me to take the individuals into my home and offer supervision if needed.

Ans 4: The biggest strength of Alexander Machonochie's style of prison administration is his belief in refusing to brutally assault the prisoners, rather, public punishment should result in the reformation of the criminal and the criminal himself should be able to observe the social constraints. His style of imprisonment consists of tasks and duties to be performed while serving sentences and marks are alloted for it. Finally, the prisoner's release depends on his performance of labour.

The biggest weakness I believe is the fact that no matter how severe the crime may be committed, the criminal upon successfully discharging his tasks and duties, will be released even for a short span of time. Not all prisoners are the same. So, there are chances that these criminals may resort to even worse crimes committed before, knowing that fact that punishment is lenient.

Ans 5: The purpose of victim impact statements in PSI report is to permit the victims of crime to describe the impact of the crime to the court.
Usually in court, the victims are not normally called to testify.However, if they are called upon to testify many questions are posted that are truly specific and they have to repond to these. By bringing out this Victim impact statement, it gives the victim to take part in the process of criminal justice and enables them to recover from the crime.
If I were the victim, it would be hard for me to come up with the victim impact statement because I wouldn't want the bad memories of how the crime affected me to haunt me again.
