Question
(14 points) On the internet, find the current1 temperature, barometic pressure (use the “station pressure”, which is the actual air pressure, rather than the “sea level pressure”, which is corrected for altitude) and relative humidity in Telluride, Colorado. Using this information, determine the partial pressure and mole fraction of water vapor in the air. Then do the same for Miami, Florida and Alert, Canada. Both of the latter “cities” are sufficiently close to sea level that the station pressure and the sea level pressure are effectively the same.
Explanation / Answer
Currently
1) the temperature of telluride is = -8.6 0C
and pressure = 1004.63 hPa =
the relative humidity = 76%
We knwo that
relative humidity = P X 100 / P s
Nearly at zero degree centigrade the vapour pressure of water = 4.6 mmHg
So Partial pressure = 4.6 X 76 / 100 = 3.496
Moles = Pressure X volume / T X Gas constant
