Question

An 89.3 mL sample of wet O2 (g) is collected over water at 21.3°C and a barometricpressure of 744 mmHg. Under these conditions, the vapor pressure of H2O is 19 mmHg.
a. Find the partial pressure of O2 in the sample in units of atm.

Equation 2.

Included appendix dont know if it helps. Im confused :(.

An 89.3 mL sample of wet O2 (g) is collected over water at 21.3 degree C and a barometric pressure of 744 mmHg. Under these conditions, the vapor pressure of H2O is 19 mmHg. Find the partial pressure of O2 in the sample in units of atm. Calculate the volume the O2 would occupy if it were dry, as described by Equation 2.

Explanation / Answer

a. Ptotal = PO2 + Pvapor

pTotal = 744/760 = 0.98 atm

pVapor = 19/760 = 0.025 atm

Po2 = Partial pressure of O2 = 0.98-0.025 = 0.955 atm

b.equation 2 is not given.
