Question

Can u explain to me why there should be three equations? I knew that K2(CrO4) +2HCL ---> 2KCl+ H2CrO4 is one of them The one written on the book is supposed to be the second one but wht and what's the third equation??? ( is it the one adding the orange solution with sodium hydride) Thus is there suppose to be a sign of precipation from chromate to dichromate?

Explanation / Answer

Dichromate-chromate equilibrium: Predominantly Cr2O72- ions present where hydroxide ions comes from water to form again   CrO42-

Cr2O72- + 2OH- H2O + 2CrO42- (step: 3)
