Human Papilloma virus (HPV) is a cause of genital warts and cervical cancer. The effectiveness of vaccination with Gardasil (a vaccine against HPV), which commenced in Australia in 2007, was studied in the following epidemiological study (published in 2014) that supported efficacy of Gardasil in reducing rates of genital warts. STIs refers to sexually transmitted infections. What are the advantaged of vaccination over antiviral therapy (such as that used to treat hepatitis C virus)? How do the data with control STIs support the hypothesis that vaccination with Gardasil was responsible for the declining incidence of genital warts? How do the data with women aged 28-49 support the hypothesis that vaccination with Gardasil was responsible for the declining incidence of genital warts?

Explanation / Answer

HPV is a human papillomavirus virus, it can cause approx. 100 of infection. It causes the infection in the genital area, cervical cancers, vulvar, vaginal, anal cancer and sexually transmitted infections. HPV vaccines  prevents infection with HPV.  HPV vaccine also prevent infection in the genital area, and cervical cancers.

1. HPV vaccine also prevent STD viral dieases like hepatitis c. It also works on compromised immune system, which is affected by HIV or viral infection. This vaccine is able to neutralizing disease causing virus by producing antibodies or memory cells.

2. 340,000 to 360,000 persons was suffered from genital warts before inventions of HPV caused by HPV infection. Now it can be treated with prescription medication, vaccine and gardasil. It decline the number of patient.  Gardasil® trials included more than 29,000 females and males, and Gardasil® 9 trials included more than 15,000 females and males.

3. Gardasil is able to prevents infection with HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18,. Gardasil is a quadrivalent vaccine. It prevent 6 and 11 type which causes 90% of genital warts. Girls of ages 11 or 12 years should get vaccinated, and then have to take males at the age of 21 and for females at the age of 26,

3. It is not  recommended for women more than 26 years. This vaccination should be completed before the age of 26 years.
