Question
Can you tell me if I got the right answers to the following problems.
1. A gas has a volume of 4.35ml at 27 degree C and 750mmHg. What is the pressure needed to change the volume to 5.00 at 0 degree C.
I got P2= 594mm
2. The volumne of gas at 35.0m^3 at 100 degree C. What is its volume at standard temperature?
I got V2=25.6m^3
3.A gas has a volume of 12.0 liters at 27 degree C and 850mmHg. How many moles are contained in the system.
I got .54mol
4. What is the temperature of 51.0grams of NH3 in a 30.0liter container at a pressure of 4.5atm of pressure?
I got T=32
Explanation / Answer
1. Using,
n = PV/RT
with,
P = 750 mmHg = 0.987 atm
V = 4.35 ml = 0.00435 L
T = 27 + 273 = 300 K
R = gas constant
n = moles
we get,
n = 0.987 x 0.00435/0.08205 x 300 = 0.00017 mols
Now to find P at V = 5 ml = 0.005 L and T = 273 K
P = 0.00017 x 0.08205 x 273/0.005 = 0.78 atm = 592.42 mmHg
2. Using,
V1/T1 = V2/T2
with,
V1 = 35 cm^3
T1 = 100 oC = 373 K
V2 = ?
T2 = 273.15 K
we get,
V2 = 35 x 273.15/373 = 25.63 cm^3
3. moles n = PV/RT
with,
P = 850/760 = 1.12 atm
V = 12 L
R = gas constant
T = 27 + 273 = 300 K
we get,
n = 1.12 x 12/0.08205 x 300 = 0.546 mols
4. Using,
T = PV/nR
with,
P = 4.5 atm
V = 30 L
R = gas constant
n = 51/17 = 3 moles
we get,
T = 4.5 x 30/3 x 0.08205 = 548.446 K = 275.446 oC
