Question
What should you do if you get conc. HCI on your skin? Flush immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and remove any contaminated as thing. Calculate the number of grams and moles of actual HCI in 40 ml of the concentrated HCI solution used in this experiment Conc. HCI is 37% real HCL and its density is 1.2g/mL. Show all work to receive credit. HCI = 40 ML Calculate the number of moles and grams of t-butly alcohol used. Show all work to receive credit. (The density of t-butyl alcohol is 0.78 g/mL) Calculations: We usedExplanation / Answer
volume of HCl = 40 mL
density = 1.2 g / mL
% present = 37 %
mass of HCl = volume x density
= 40 x 1.2
= 48 g
actually 37% only HCl is present so actual mass of HCl = 48 x 37 / 100 = 17.76 g
mass of HCl = number of grams of HCl = 17.76 g
molar mass of HCl = 1 + 35.5 = 36.5 g / mol
moles = mass / molar mass
= 17.76 / 36.5
= 0.487
moles = 0.487
note :
for last problem volume is missed . may be it is present before problem
