Question

Compare what you know about the Seattle rainfall/landslide data (reproduced below) with the bar graph from 1972 (Links to an external site.) which shows the relationship between rainfall and landslides day-by-day (you looked at both of these earlier in the module). Based on these data, which seems to be a more important cause of landsliding: high annual rainfall or large individual rainstorms? Give your reasoning. (Hint: Think about which relationship - annual rainfall vs # of landslides or daily rainfall vs. # of landslides is a better "fit".

Explanation / Answer

Seattle is situated on the west coast of the United States. here is the data of landslide which shows the landslide intenisty in this area with the help of bar graph. landslide is the process of suddenly movement of rocks or debris along the slope to the road or on the societal area which can be caused of highly damag.

normally particles of the soil are bounded togeather but because of water infiltration, force getting weak between the particles, then under the gravity or slope intensity mass of rock moved from their original place to another place.

so we can say that heavy rainfall is the main cause of landslide but landslide is also depend on the rainstorm pattern as well as. rainstorm is the cause of heavy rainfall with the partcular diretction. so at the time of rainstorm heavy rainfall erode the soil in a particular direction while only in the condition of heavy rainfall there is no specific direction for the water.

so we can say that rainstorm vs landslide is more damageful.
