We can understand that people with high qualifications tend to migrate to cities or towns for more opportunities and that are densly crowded but that is a general belief. An actual trend might be varying from our assumptions and understanding of brain gain cities.
Brain grain is defined as -The immigration of highly trained or qualified people, regarded as beneficial to a country's economy or society. Largest brain gain cities include Austin, Atlanta, Boston, Denver, Minneapolis, San Diego, San Francisco, Washington, and Raleigh and Durham, N.C. but the trend has not sustained, places like New York have suffered high levels of domestic outmigration. New York, Chicago and Los Angeles are perennial magnets of high-end talent, but their size and the constant churning of their population make it difficult for demographers to discern the winner-take-all pattern identified in mid-size cities.People who are moving out of brain gain cities are stalling the growth of that city.People are more opting for places that provide them affordability and job growth. Best strategy for attracting graduates lies in creating jobs, as well as in offering both affordable housing and a range of housing options.
Tech companies, Construction businesses, biotech companies, entrepreneurs, media businesses etc type of businesses recruit in brain gain cities.
Studying the pattern of these brain gain cities shows us that traditionally very attractive urban places are eventually losing it's momentum because of dead end jobs and affordability of houses hence educated people are outmigrating from these cities to places where they more better opportunities, family-friendly environments, places that are more culturally socially viable and where they are not challenged by criticial problems that will certainly be faced in popular big cities.
It depends on person to person, to each his own, depend on what you want to accomplish in life and where you can find it, where they would like to stay. If a person is getting a good job profile with prospect of job growth and is ready to face to face financially management he will have to undergo to make sure it's affordable to live there then certainly one can stay in brain gain cities while those who wouldn't like to get challenged by affordability, crowding and wants a life that can offer a good job opportunity can stay in other places.
