Question

This paper is worth 5 points (1-page double space, Arial 12, 1-inch margin without references and without titles) but for very good papers there are 3 additional points (for a 2 pages paper, not a guarantee of 3 points but only for well-grounded reflections).

The paper will contain only a title and your reflection on policy issues. For a one or two page paper, some students use 3 or 4 lines for name, title, subject, date, etc, which reduces the size of the paper.

Choose a relevant topic in economic policy (Federal Reserve System, interest rates, national debt, budget deficits, healthcare reform, tax reform, economic implications of immigration policies, etc.)

To write your paper, use your notes (for proper language in economics) and media outlets for information.

Please be objective: you can agree/disagree with a policy but provide economic arguments.

Explanation / Answer

Topic: Healthcare reform

In the United States health care reform has a long gistory. Reforms have usually been proposed however have rarely been accomplished. The problems of cost and quality in the United States health care reforms are unlikely to be solved without the participation and strong leadership from the federal government that can properly mobilize action in setting of the national priorities for quality; developing and promulgation on the standards for care; and stimulate successful implementation of performance standards and measures for providers. All of these functions can be best effectively and efficiently be carried out by a new federal agency. Moreover, the federal government design the policies of payment that are based on the performance standards, investment in the required information technology, and investment in research related for the enhancement of care and in training professionals for the support of quality improvement nationwide.

Under new health care plan, as proposed by Trump, it would includes a ban on annual and lifetime limits thus allowing kids to stay on their parents’ plans until they attain the age of 26, and requiring insurance plans to offer coverage to all patients regardless of how sick they are. The replacement healthcare plan would be more costly to poor and older people. The proposal introduced by Republicans would allow insurance companies to charge higher premium from older adults five times what they charge the young. It is helpful the young and penalizing the elderly

I disagree with this plan because Trump's plan would lower the costs for those who are healthy and increase the costs those suffer from a chronic illness. When healthy customers leave the health plans, the companies will be forced to increase prices to remain profitable. Under Trump's plan, health care costs are likely to increase at a faster rate than under Obamacare. The Trump's plan is likely to increase the debt; and when ACA costs increases, so will the cost of subsidies, which in turn increases the deficit and debt.

In the next several years however the government efforts will be "fixing" the health care environment system and reducing health care costs with the creation of transparency in pricing, increased competition and elimination of redundancies or ineffective regulatory practices. With this customer-centric approach without compromising safety in the health care environment will be significantly beneficial to the patients
