Question

In the figure, a horizontal force Fa of magnitude 18.0 N is applied to a 2.90 kg book as the book slides a distance d = 0.32 m up a frictionless ramp at angle ? = 30. (a) During the displacement, what is the net work done on the book by Fa, the gravitational force on the book, and the normal force on the book? (b) If the book has zero kinetic energy at the start of the displacement, what is its speed at the end of the displacement?

Explanation / Answer

force = mass x acceleration

so first get your net force which is : 18 N - 28.42sin(30) =3.79 N

using F = m.a , you can get the acceleration which is 1.30.

now you have three things : 1) initial speed (u) = 0 m/s
2) accele. (a) = 1.30m/s.sq
3) distance (s) = 0.32 m

now using v(sq) = u(sq) + 2.a.s

you get the answer = 0.914 m/s
