Question
A man is trying to relocate his radio antenna from the roof of his house. 40m away from the house there are 2 large boulders side by side (a small boulder separates the two) that lie between his house and his favorite radio station. The distance between the two large boulders is 3m and the height of the house and antenna is Y. If the man can't place the antenna on his house, where is the next best place he can put it to get good reception? (The wavelength of the radio station is 2m)
The diagram for the boulders (space boulder #1 and #2 is 3m) between are:
Boulder #1
small boulder ____________________House with antenna, height of Y (40m from boulders)
Boulder #2
I know this has something to do with thin slit constructive inteference but I'm not sure how to apporach it....
Explanation / Answer
sin(theta) = 1.5 (lambda/a)
==> y/L = 1.5 (lambda/a)
==> y = 1.5 (L lambda/a)
==> y = 1.5 * (40*2/3)
==> y = 40 m
