Question
A solar cell generates a potential difference of 0.1091 V when a 500 resistor is connected across it, and a potential difference of 0.1600 V when a 1000 resistor is substituted.
What is the internal resistance of the solar cell?
8.75×102 ohms
What is the emf of the solar cell?
The area of the cell is 5.0 cm2, and the rate per unit area at which it receives energy from light is 2.0m W/ cm2. What is the efficiency of the cell for converting the light energy to thermal energy in the 1000 external resistor? (percent = Do not enter a unit)
You are correct.Your receipt no. is 160-7471 Previous Tries
Explanation / Answer
Let the emf of the solar cell be and the output voltage be V. Thus
for both cases. Numerically, we get
0.1091 V = – (0.1091 V/500 )r
0.16 V = – (0.16V/1000 )r.
We solve for and r
r = 874.570 ohms
=0.3 V
and
efficiency =(V2/R)/ powerrecieved = (0.16)2/1000*5*2 = 0.26%
