Question

A). Two charges, one is at A with - 35.06 nC and other is at B with +9* 35.06 nC are seperated by 1 m. Find the distance AC in cm for which electric POTENTIAL at point C is zero.
B). -0.01 nC charge is located at point A (-10 mm, -5 mm). Calculate the y component of the electric field at point O (0,0). (do not forget to put the sign of electric field in the answer box) A). Explanation / Answer

A). we take distance x from the point A

kQ1/x = kQ2/(1-x)

-35.06/x = 9*35.06/(1-x)

-1/x = 9/(1-x)

(x-1) = 9x

8x =-1

x =-1/8

hence x =-0.125 m = -12.5 cm.........Ans.

B). Electric field

Ey = kq1/r2 = 9x10^9*(-0.01x10^-9)/ (5x10^-3)^2 = -3600 N/C........Ans.
