Question
Alternative Exercise 7.91 Part A What is the speed of the glider when it returs to 0 A glider with mass m 0.200 kg sits on a frictionless horizontal air track, connected to a spring with force constant k-5.20 N/m. You pull on the glider, stretching the spring 0.120 m, and then release it with no initial velocity. The glider begins to move back toward its equilibrium position( z 0). m/s Submit My Answers Give Up Part B What must the initial displacement of the glider be if its maximum speed in the subsequent motion is to be 2.20 m/s? 1) What is the speed of the glider when it returns to x=0
The spring potential energy will be converted to kinetic energy
KE = PS
½mv² = ½kx²
v = (kx²/m)
v = (5.20(0.120²) / 0.200)
v = 0.611 m/s
2 ) What must the initial displacement of the glider be if its maximum speed in the subsequent motion (maximum velocity) is to be 2.20m/s ?
KE = PS
½mv² = ½kx²
x = (mv²/k)
x = (0.200(2.20²) / 5.20)
x = 0.431 m
