Question
The figure at the right shows five 4.00 ? resistors.
(a) Determine the equivalent resistance between points F and H.
(b) Determine the equivalent resistance between points F and G.
These are my teachers requirements if you could please follow them I would really appreciate it thank you :)
In addition to being neat and clear, and actually answering the question, you must:
1) show the original principle (often in equation form)
2) substitute variables as needed?
3) solve it first (before substituting numbers)
4) show every substitution (with units and correct sig figs)
5) present a boxed answer (with units and correct sig figs)
Explanation / Answer
here,
(a)
series combination of two R ohm resistance , R' = R + R = 2 * R
then R' , R and R' are in parallel
the equivalent resistance be Req
1/Req = 1/R' + 1/R' + 1/R
1/Req = 1/2R + 1/R + 1/2R
Req = R/2
Req = 2 ohm
the equivalent resistance about F and H is 2 ohm
(b)
series combination of two R ohm resistance , R' = R + R = 2 * R
R' is parallel with R,
then R'' = R * 2 * R /( R + 2 * R)
R'' = 2/3 * R
R'' and R are in parallel, then R''' = R'' + R
R''' = 5/3 * R
R''' and R in parallel
the equivalent resistance , Req = R''' * R /( R''' + R)
Req = 5/3 * R * R /( 5/3 * R + R)
Req = 5/8 * R
Req = 1.25 ohm
the equivalent resistance about F and G is 1.25 ohm
