Question
Two identical partical of change 1 C are traveling toward each other, each with a speed of 500 m/s. The two particles are 1 meter apart. Your friend says that the total magnetic field is zero all thoughout the plane padding throught the midpoint between the particales. Can you prove your friend? [Your friend is right. Atart by setting up a coordinate system i.e. let the two particales travel toward each other along the x-axis. Considersome arbitrary point along the y-axis as the target point. Focus on the direction of the electric fields created by either particle at the target point and then figure out the direction of the maguetic fields due to the particles. You should find that they cancel.]Explanation / Answer
if we take the middle point, field due to each charge = k/r^2 where r= distance between the charge and the point
as the fields are in opposite direction, they cancel each other.
so net electric field=0
as electric field=0, magnetic field will be zero
