Question

please help me solving this problem

In an experiment to simulate conditions within an automobile engine, 0.150 mol of air at a temperature of 740 K and a pressure of 2.80 times 10^6 Pa is contained in a cylinder of volume 330 cm^3 Then 620 J of heat is transferred to the cylinder. If the volume of the cylinder is constant while the heat is added, what is the final temperature of the air? Assume that the air is essentially nitrogen gas. lf instead the volume of the cylinder is allowed to increase while the pressure remains constant, find the final temperature of the air.

Explanation / Answer

dQ = n*Cv*dT

Cv is the specific heat capacity at constant volume = (5/2)*R = (5/2)*8.314

dT = (T2-T1)

n is the no.of moles

dQ = n*Cv*dT

620 = 0.15*(5/2)*8.314*(T2-740)

T2 = 938.86 K = 939 K is the answer for A)

----------------------------------------------------------

B) dQ = n*Cp*dT

Cp is the specific heat capacity at constant volume = (7/2)*R = (7/2)*8.314

dT = dQ/(n*Cp) = 620/(0.15*(7/2)*8.314) = 142.04 K

(T2-T1) = 142 K

T2 = 142+ 740 = 882 K is the answer for b)
