Question
This is chapter 21, question 1 from Fundamentals of Physics Chapters 21-44, 9th edition. The chegg study solution shows that you use this short equation to figure out how much charge is transferred when two objects with known charges are touched together and then separated, but I can't find any place in the chapter that includes an equation that looks like this. How did the person who did this question come to this answer? (What's the equation and rationale?)
Step 3 of 4 (a) After touching each pair separately In case (1), charge transferred from +6e to -4e is given as: +6e-4e q, = +5e In case (2), charge transferred from +2e to 0 is given as: +2-0 92-+leExplanation / Answer
what he has done is
when two charges are brought and touched and then separated.
the charges will try to compensate each other if they are differently charged
let us say +6 and -4 when brough together the net charge is 2/2 (averaged) coulombs now this gets added or subtracted from the original charge after they are separated and brought
the difference gained or lost is counted with the other charge or say it is present with the other charge.
