Question
A conducting spherical shell of radius 6 cm carries a net charge of 7.15 µC uniformly distributed on its surface. Find the electric field at points just outside the shell. (Take the radially outward direction to be positive.) The permitivity of free space is 8.85419 × 1012 C 2 /N · m2 . Answer in units of N/C.
The first step I took was to find the Electric Flux of the data (-7.15e10^-6)/(8.85419e10^-12) = -6.22e-17. I then divided that number by (4pi r^2)(Cos180). I got E = 1.399e-19. Did I do this problem correctly? Thanks.
Explanation / Answer
Yes, of course. Its the correct way to approach such a problem unless and untill the point at which we are calculating the electric field in outside the body. In this casea for any point which is inside the body, the electric field in zero. ( as it doesn't contain any charge.)
