Question

Use the worked example above to help you solve this problem. Assume that a certain concave spherical mirror has a focal length of 11.5 cm.(a) Locate the image and find the magnification for an object distance of 28.8 cm. (If the image location or magnification is infinite, type INFINITY.)

(b) Do the same for an object distance of 11.5 cm

(c) Do the same for an object distance of 5.75 cm.

Use the values from PRACTICE IT to help you work this exercise. If the object distance is 23.0 cm, find the image distance and the magnification of the mirror.

q = 19.14 cm M = -0.665

Explanation / Answer

from mirror formula

1/f = 1/o +1/q

f = 11.5 cm, o = 23 cm

1/11.5 = 1/23+1/q

q = 23 cm

magnification M = -q/o

M = -23/23

M = -1
