Question
I could use help with these problems it's been awhile since I've done any physics thanks!
3. A cart starts moving with initial speed 10 m/s on a horizontal track toward a motion detector The speed decreases at a constant rate of 2.0 m/s2. The motion starts at t = 0 and x = 1.0 m. A)Write down the equation for position and velocity as a function of time. B)What is the physical meaning of the slope of the tangent line of position vs. time graph at t = 0? 4. The graph of velocity vs. time for the motion of a cart along a horizontal track is shown. The motion starts at x 0 and t = 0. A) Is the cart moving toward or away from the motion detector? Why? B) Find the acceleration of this motion. C) Write the equation for position as a function of time MacBook Air E9 F8 F7 F5Explanation / Answer
3. (a) GIVEN u = 10 m/s a = - 2 m/s2 , v = final velocity, a= acceleration
By equation of motion;
v = u + at
v = 10-2t
S = ut+1/2(at2)
S = 10t -1/2(2t2)
S = 10t -t2
(b) Instantaneous velocity
4. (a) since the velocity is decreasing so the cart is moving away from the motion detector.
(b) v= u + at
8 = 11 + a*5 here u = initial velocity is 11 m/s at t=0 and v = 8 m/s at t=5,
a= -3/5 = -0.6 m/s2
(c) S = ut + 1/2(at2)
S = 11t - 1/2(0.6t2) = 11t - 0.3t2
