Question

Two capacitors, C_1 = 4.06 mu F and C_2 = 13.3 mu F, are connected In parallel, and the resulting combination Is connected to a 9.00-V battery. (a) Find the equivalent capacitance of the combination. 17 36 mu F (b) Find the potential difference across each capacitor. V_1 = 9 V V_2 = 9 V (c) Find the charge stored on each capacitor. Q_1 = 36.54e-5 What is the relationship between the charge on a capacitor and the potential difference across that capacitor? mu C Q_2 = 1.197e-4 What is the relationship between the charge on a capacitor and the potential difference across that capacitor? mu Consider the following. (Let C_1 = 15.40 mu F and C_2 = 9.40 mu F.)

Explanation / Answer

(A) for parallel connection,

C = C1 + C2 = 4.06 + 13.3 = 17.4 uF

(B) capacitors are in parallel so both will have same voltage diff equal to battey voltage.

V = 9 volt

(C) Q1 = C1 V = 4.06uF x 9 = 36.5 uC

Q2 = 13.3 x 9 = 119.7 uC
