Question
Given that the electric field in an xy plane produced by apostively charged particle is E = 7.2(4.0 i + 3.0 j)N/C at the point(3.0,3.0)cm and is 100i N/C at the point (2.0,0)cmWhat are the (a) x and (b) y coordinates of the particle? (c)What is that charge of the particle?
I am very confused with the answers given in the book (as well asthe one posted on the cramster site) Could anyone pleaseplease help walk me thought the steps/and or theory?
Thanks so much for your time!! the answers are: (a) -1.0cm (b) 0 (c) 10pC

Explanation / Answer
LET THE charge of the particle is q and coordinate of the particleis (x,y) hence field at the point 3,3 is Kq[(x-3)i+(y-3)j]/[(x-3)2+(y-3)2]1.5 hencewe have (y-3)/(x-3)=3/4=>4y-3x=3 field at the point 2,0 isKq[(x-2)i+(y-0)j]/[(x-2)2+(y-0)2]1.5 hencewe have y/(x-2)=0/100 =>y=0 from above relation x=-1cm substituting these values we get kq/25=7.2*5 hence kq=900 q=10-7C
