This is a gordon rule question (a) Airplane travelers sometimes note that their cosmeticsbottles, toothpaste tube, and other containers have leaked during aflight ( when flown in cargo hold- checked baggage) what mightcaues this? (b) When blood pressurwe is measured, why must the bloodpressure cuff be held at the level of the heart? (c) A submerged can of "cola" will sink, but a can of"diet cola" will float. explain. (d) A barge filled high with sand approaches a lowbridge over the river and cannot quite pass under it. should sandbe added to , or removed from the barge? Explanation / Answer

a) Because the hold is not pressurized and pressuredifferences cause the leakage. b) The blood pressure will be higher below the heart and lowerabove the heart similar to the       pressure due to a column ofliquid. c) Evidently the sugar in the cola produces a liquid ofgreater density than that of diet cola. d) Adding sand will cause the barge to float lower in thewater because buoyancy depends      on the volume of waterdisplaced. e) Possibly to collect condensed water when the steam isturned off - when the steam is turned back on      it will allow some pressure to buildand blow all of the water out at once instead of accumulating      water along the length of thepipe.
