(a) What will be the length of the wire?
1 m
(b) What will be the diameter of the wire?
2 µm

Explanation / Answer

The density of copper d = 8.92 x 103kg/m3 We know that                        volume = m / d                                    = 1.15 x 10-3 / 8.92 x 103                                    = 0.1289 x 10-6 m3 But volume = A * L ==> A * L = 0.1289 x 10-6m3            .......1 The resistance of the copper wire is                   R = L / A ==>         A*L = L2 / R     ............2 From eq 1 and 2 we have                   L2 / R = 0.1289 x 10-6 Therefore length of the wire is ==>           L = [ R * 0.1289 x 10-6 / ]                        = [ 0.3 * 0.1289 x 10-6 / 1.69 x 10-8]                        = 1.512 m    Area = r2= Volume / L                    = 0.1289 x 10-6 / 1.512     ==> r = 164.77 m Therefore diameter D = 2 r = 329.5 m
