Explanation / Answer

The first option is correct. This is because glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase is an enzyme involved in pentose phosphate pathway in which NADPH is produced. NADPH maintains the reduced levels of glutathione which prevents the fragility of RBC's. Deficiency of NADPH due to defective glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase lowers the levels of reduced glutathione thereby making RBCs fragile and causing hemolytic anaemia.
