Question
When a 1.0 gram rubber band with is lifted to a height of 1 m, stretched 10 cm and shot exactly horizontally, it flies 2.25 m before it hits the ground. If the rubber band were lifted to 1 meter again and stretched 10 cm as well, but this time pointed vertically, what maximum height would it reach (relative to the ground)? 2. 3. An obiect with a mass of 40 kg is lifted 10 m up in the air and released. Find out how much gravitational potential energy the object has, then determine how fast it will be traveling just before it hits the ground.Explanation / Answer
2.
The main problem of this question is to find the initial velocity .
Now the time taken to reach 1m in first case is,
H=0.5gt 2
1=0.5*9.81t2
t=0.4515 seconds.
Now velocity imparted will be,
x=ut
2.25=u*0.4515
u=4.983m/s
Now the max height attained attained in second case will be,
v 2=2gH
H=4.9832/2*9.81
H=1.2655m
Now the height relative to ground will be
=1+1.2655
=2.2655m
