Question
Read: "Global metabolic impacts of recent climate warming" -----> https://www.nature.com/articles/nature09407
1. what is the overarching issue? (usually in paragraph 1)
2. what specific hypotheses and predictions did the authors claim to investigate? (often but not always in last paragraph of intro)
3. did the methods and tests address the stated hypotheses?
4. what was the major finding? (often in the 1st paragr of discussion; sound address their most important hypothesis)
5. how did their data support their conclusions?
6. do their conclusions imply anything about the overarching issue in paragraph 1 of the introduction?
Explanation / Answer
1. The overarching issue is the effect of global warming on the species of plants and animals and humans with regard to geographical ranges, seasonal phenology, community interaction, genetics and extinctions.
2. The author investigates that the changes in the terrestrial metabolic rates are the highest in tropics, followed by the temperate followed by the Arctics as the temperature has non-linear effect on the metabolism of the organims.
3. The hypothesis is tested as it shows the correlation of global warming i.e the increase in temperature in three latitutinal zones namely tropics, temperate, and the arctic and how the organism respond to it and how are they are affected from it.
4. It was found that the shift in tropical region with respect of global warming is less as compared to the temperate region as in tropical region the warming is less pronounced.
