(A) Velocity is different from acceleration. Speeding up or slowing down is acceleration. How fast you are going is acceleration. You can be slowing down but still be going faster than the car in front of you. You can also be speeding up, but going slower than the car behind you. A specific example would be when you are waiting at a busy intersection. Finally you give up waiting for an opening and you just cut in front of a car. You stomp on the accelerator and are speeding up, but you still aren't going at the speed limit. The alert driver behind you has been in similar situations and is very understanding and he slows down. To remind you that this is not recommended driving procedure, he times his deceleration so that he ends up about three inches behind your car. He may wave at you to show that he understands how busy you are and that it was very important for you to merge into traffic and that he is not at all offended. He may also toot his horn or flash his brights as a friendly guesture. b) This part of the question is a little confused. Each word is very important in questions like these and you seem to have made some typing errors. How can you both pass and be adjacent to a car? How can the cars have the same constant speed yet one passes the other? What is the first time? Is it when C passes D, when they are adjacent, or when they have the same constant speed?
