Converging Lens Questions: 2) Explain why, for a given object to image distance, there are two lens positions where a clear image forms. 3) By looking at an image, how can you tell that the magnification is negative?Explanation / Answer
1) If the image is formed at back of the lens then its a virtual image. As real image formed where rays are converged that is at the front.
2) If you kept a object at 2F the image will be formed at other side of the lens at a distance 2F. Now if you move the lens towards object slightly, that is <F then image will form at the same place but magnified that before.
3)If the image is inverted then the magnification is negative.
