Question
Two small stereo speakers A and B that are 1.30 m apart are sending out sound of wavelength 36.2 cm in all directions and all in phase. A person at point P starts out equidistant from both speakers and walks (see the figure ) so that he is always 1.50 m from speaker B. Limit your solutions to the cases where x<= 1.50 m.Figure: http://session.masteringphysics.com/problemAsset/1264447/2/1028633.jpg
A) For what values of x will the sound this person hears be maximally reinforced?
B) For what values of x will the sound this person hears be cancelled?
The wavelength is NOT 34 CM. Please dont just copy and paste answers, they are usually wrong.
Explanation / Answer
Find the nodes and antinodes... WHat you need is to look for where the distance from the person to the two speakers varies by an integral number of wavelengths or an odd number of half wavelengths
