Question
Consider a car which weighs about 2000 kg and is parked at an elevation of 30 m above the bottom of a hill with a constant slope equal to -.5.a). what is a horizontal component of the force on the car?
I calculated this to be 19600/ sqrt(5)
b). estimate the final kinetic energy which the car would have it its brakes gave away and it freely rolled down to the bottom the hill.
I calculated this to be 588,000 Joules
c). Estimate the final speed of the runaway car in both m/s and in mph units.
I need help with this one because I don't know which equation to use. Should I use F=ma. SInce I know the horizontal component and the mass of the car.
Explanation / Answer
mgh = 0.5mv^2 =>v = sqrt(2gh) = 24.26m/s = 54.2705mph
