Given that the transistor in the circuit below is silicon and has beta = 100, calculate Ic and Vc. Use the dc model of the transistor shown in Fig 12(a). Fig. 12(a) For the amplifier circuit in Fig. 16, with beta = 100, R1 = 18 kOhm, R2 = 2 kOhm, RE = 100 Ohm, and rE negligible, calculate the low frequency cut off frequency fc as discussed in the paragraph on frequency response. Frequency Response: We estimated the gain above. This should be called the "mid-band" gain, because it may not extend to very high or low frequencies. The amplifier in Fig. 16 would amplify down to zero frequency if there were no coupling capacitor. However, the coupling capacitor, together with the input resistance of the amplifier discussed above, forms a high-pass filter, which cuts off the low frequency response of the amplifier. You can estimate the cutoff frequency using the value of the effective Rin and the value of the capacitor C. The low frequency cut off can be cxpected to be approximately fc = 1/2piRinC (11) There is nothing apparent in the amplifier circuit diagram to cut off the response at high frequencies, but one can anticipate that stray capacitance between the collector and other elements will create a low-pass filter, which will have this cffect.
