Question
What are two purposes of a fuse used in conjunction with a distribution transformer serving a residential home? When is it acceptable to place two fuses in series when perfect coordination between the two fuses does not exist? What is the advantage of using three, single phase voltage regulators as compared to using one, three phase voltage regulator? 1. 2. 3. 4. For a customer receiving power from a three-phase transformer bank, how docs the electric utility provide the customer with line to ground voltage?Explanation / Answer
1)purpose of fuse used in conjuction with distrubution transformer
Pole fuse switch disconnectors are used for protecting low-voltage networks. They combine the functions of a fuse, a switch and a disconnector.
Pole fuse switches are easy to use as they can be operated from the ground by using a rod. They are also reliable and work for decades even in the most severe conditions.Their reliability and safety has been proved in numerous tests in accordance with IEC and national standards. A fuse rating is the current need to blow (break) the fuse. When a fuse has blown it removes electrical power from an electrical circuit. The fuse rating is usually on the side of the fuse. Thefuse rating is usually defined in 'amps' – amps are the unit of measurement of electrical current.
2) it is not acceptable when there is no coordination between the fuses because the primary fuse acts like a first line of defence when there is an abnormal condition and the secondary fuse acts as the backup fuse.if primary fuse fails then secondary fuse acts as back up fuse when there is a coordination between the fuses.
3)the advantage of three 1 phase VR over 3 phase VR as follows
a)if there is any problem in one phase then we can easy replace the one phase VR but in #phase regulator it is not possible.
b)transportation of single phase voltage regulator is compared to 3 phase regulator.
4)in distrubution system voltage is stepped down to 400 from 11kv by using delta star transformer.in the secondary side of transformer is star then we have 3 phase wires and one neutral wire.most of the consumers are using single phase ,1 phase needs one phase and one earth wire.single phase voltage is 230v.
