Canteen operators had to maintain health standards at all times.Without deciding what to take from refrigerator,opening the door it accounts for 7% of the total energy use.When the fridge door is opened,the cool air in the fridge escapes and is replaced by warm air.Then refrigerator's compressor has to drive the warm air out and bring the temperature back to normal condition.Carelessness in opening and closing the fridge door wastes 50 to 120k Wh a year.

There will be so much of energy wastage from refrigerators in canteen .It has high power rating ,it switched on for long periods of time.Empty space in freezers and refrigerators wastes energy.Keeping the stock for long periods of time wastes energy.

Steps to solve:

Maintain and service the refrigerator regularly according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Clean the condenser coil regularly .

Defrost freezers before ice gets to 25mm thickness.Ice buildups use more energy.

Improvements:

Dont let the frost build up in the freezer compartment.

Clean the refrigerator and freezer for every 6 months.

Keep the refrigerator in cool place,not in the path of direct sunlight.

Dont put hot food directly into the freezer.

Set the temperature for cooling, only how much it needs.
