Question

You are the assistant director of the hospital medical staff office at The Rural Outreach Community Hospital in a tiny town in Arkansas. It is your job to verify physician credentials for staff privileges. Your hospital receives an application from a physician for staff privileges. On his application it states that he graduated from medical school in El Salvador. When you call to verify this, you are told that the medical school burned down 2 years ago and all the records were destroyed. What do you do?

Explanation / Answer

As the assistant director it is my job responsibility to verify physician credeentials. If a physician applied for staff privileges and it is not possible to verify his credentials then I will not allow him for staff privileges unless I verified his credentials through any other means. The incident which makes it impossible to verify credentials are beyond the control of student but still as per the rules it will be against the policy of the hospital if I allow that student without verifying the credentials. So, I will ask him to produce any other evidence to verify his credentials.
