A certain hospital situated in a rural area, experiences constant electricity and water shortages to the extent that the hospital management decided to solve the problem "in house". You are the Maintenance Manager of that hospital and one of your tasks as a Manager is to oversee a maintenance project to make the hospital self-reliable, i.e. to have its own power generating capacity and water supply You are given 90 days and a budget of R15 million for the facility upgrading project. In your project you will service and overhaul old equipment, introduce new upgraded equipment and buy new necessary equipment. You also decide to implement Reliability Centered Maintenance Your task for this portfolio-type assignment is to write a technical report that demonstrates how you would co-ordinate and execute the entire project. Your report should highlight the following topics covered in the module: Financial resources: Manage the above-mentioned budget between all personnel, contractors, equipment spares, mechanical work to be done and the purchasing of new and upgraded equipment. Explanation / Answer

a)In order to resolve electricity woes, the hospital can install roof top solar panels to make itself self reliant & cost efficient by tapping clean & sustainable energy. The same is also cost effective way to reduce energy costs significantly.

b) To resolve water issues, the hospital can install a borewell machine to tap natural water resources in abundance from the underground. A filteration plant could also be set-up to provide clean drinking water to patients, relatives & visitors and the same can be also be used for washing the linen in the laundry. Unfiltered/hard water can be used/reused for toilets & bathrooms as the same is abundant in nature.

This way the hospital can reinvent, tranform and at the same time be cost efficient for the same.
