Question
What is/are the key difference between severe and non-severe squall lines?
Severe squall lines develop in environments with higher CAPE values
Uni-directional shear is present only in environments which produce severe squall lines
Severe squall lines develop in environments with lower CAPE values
Both A and B are correct
None of the above
A.Severe squall lines develop in environments with higher CAPE values
B.Uni-directional shear is present only in environments which produce severe squall lines
C.Severe squall lines develop in environments with lower CAPE values
D.Both A and B are correct
E.None of the above
Explanation / Answer
The key difference between severe and non-severe squall lines
Both A and B are correct:- Severe squall lines develop in environments with higher CAPE values & Uni-directional shear is present only in environments which produce severe squall lines
Explanation - What are Squall Lines - SQuall lines are associated with Thunderstorms and they are formed either ahead of the Cold front ( cold front is a changeover zone where cold air mass replaces the warm air , these generally move from northwest to southeast. on the weather maps these are shown through solid blue lines) when the cold air surpasses the warm air this anamoly can cause severe weather changes leading to immediate temperature drops leading to thunder storms , rainfall, very strong winds . these lines are usually observed in the areas which can have immediate atmospheric changes .
Cape is Convective available potential energy
increased cape and shear will increase the momentum and duration of a storm ,a wide range of squall lines are observed along the higher cape's and vertical wind shears
severe squalls are the thunderstorms with multi cells squalls which basically means structured line of storms with a continous gust front , these storms can produce moderate hao; storms , flash floods and tornadoes but not very strong
