Question
Need help on PART 2 AND 4, PLEASE EXPLAIN.
The researchers from Exercise 5.35 also investigated the effects of being distracted by a game on how much people eat. The 22 patients in the treatment group who ate their lunch while playing solitaire were asked to do a serial-order recall of the food lunch items they ate. The average number of items recalled by the patients in this group was 4.9, with a standard deviation of 1.8. The average number of items recalled by the patients in the control group (no distraction) was 6.1, with a standard deviation of 1.8. Do these data provide strong evidence that the average number of food items recalled by the patients in the treatment (solitaire, distracted) group is less than that of the control group? Use a significance level of 5%. USE YOUR TI CALCULATOR.
I know the answer is not A for part 2.
PT2 -What are the hypotheses for this test?
A)
Ho: no distraction = distraction
Ha: no distraction < distraction
B)
Ho: no distraction = distraction
Ha: no distraction distraction
C)
Ho: no distraction = distraction
Ha: no distraction > distraction
The p-value for the hypothesis test is: .0163
PART 4: Interpret the result of the hypothesis test in the context of the study: Do these data provide convincing evidence that the average number of food items recalled by the patients in the treatment (solitaire) group is less than that of the control group? Answer "yes" or "no" and explain how you came to your conclusion, referencing your p-value.
Explanation / Answer
C)
Ho: no distraction = distraction
Ha: no distraction > distraction
YES. With p-value < 0.05, i reject ho and conclude that there average number of food items recalled by the patients in the treatment (solitaire) group is less than that of the control group. That is there is sufficient evidence to support the claim that the average number of food items recalled by the patients in the treatment (solitaire) group is less than that of the control group
