This final discussion assignment is to apply the terms listed below, and apply them to what the course has presented to you on Florida and its ecosystems. Lastly, we wish to hear how you can practice sustainability in your own everyday lives and habits.

Be sure to answer the following questions:

1) Define Sustainability and Sustainable development. Please use valid resources such as government or educational sites. Provide their definitions in your own words, do not copy and paste.

2) Compare and contrast the three components of a sustainable society. The three components are ecological integrity, social justice and economic prosperity. The course discussed the first component, ecological integrity, in the most detail, with references to social justice and economic prosperity. Provide, in your own words, how each component can work together, as well as the difficulties of maintaining each with the influences of the others.

3) In the freshwater marshes unit, there are several examples of humans now emulating nature. Provide one of them.

4) How can you, as an individual, change behavior or practice to be a more sustainable individual?

Explanation / Answer

1) sustainability :- it is the study of balancing the ecological system by using the things (like fuel, all precious metals, solar energy, wind energy etc.) for fulfilling the human needs without harming future need.

Sustainable development :- it is the development in which all the needs of humans getting fulfilled without harming the need of future generations.

Ecological integrity : the protection of Environment from all sides is the main function of this component. The small things like air quality, electricity, industrial wastes are harming the world ecosystem. So, by decreasing the use of vehicles and use of cycles and walking will decrease the air pollution. The electricity is harming the livelihood bad way as the harmful elements are realsed into the river or ocean. Somewhere industrial factor is useful for development and livelihood and the other hand it is that much harmful also. Because of waste release, but it can stop by dumping the waste will not affect the river water quality.

Social justice : the protection of humans health is the main function of this component. The USA, Europe is more serious about the health problem because of environmental issues from all the industrial organisation's. The USA legislation is highly strict about the industrial issues, air pollution, mining issues ets.

Economic prosperity : this component is mainly focusing on how to make the country profitable with protecting the humans from environmental issues. Every country need some sort of profit for development and future prospective and this is only done when this component is taken seriously.

3) the freshwater is getting interferered by human. The nature has affected badly by the modernisation. The industrial waste releases in the freshwater river, the agricultural fertilizers and pesticides has change the soil composition which in results percolate the water in ground and affects groundwater also.

Nuclear waste is the main concern now a days. The nuclear reactor are used to generate electricity from radioactive element like uranium which after use, get release in the river which causes health problem like lung cancer, kidney disease.

4) Individual can make big difference like using the solar energy, wind energy etc will save the world from nuclear reactor which uses harmful uranium. By mining at greater depth imbalancing the nature, individual can give effort to stop those mines. This will save the life of workers which works in toxic environment.
