Deviation Uncertain Mean 38 Std. Deviation 13.5483 Yes Mean 57 Std. Deviation Total Mean 125 Std. Deviation Discuss the means and standard deviations for each of these four variables, comparing across the variable fear.Explanation / Answer
Let us begin with YES as option and we will proceed with NO, Uncertain and Total in a sequence.
1. YES: (i). 31.5935 is the average of population that is black agrees that fear of crime is the worst problem in the city. Moreover, the standard deviation is 19.5976 which is large as compared with standard deviation for other parameters. This means that the deviation of percentage of black people saying yes to the fear is deviating from the average value on higher level.
Out of the people saying YES to the statement that the fear of crime is the worst problem in the city , the average percentage is highest for the high school graduates, whereas the Standard deviation is highest for the black population. The conclusion from this is that the college graduates feel that the fear of crime is the worst problem in the city. Also, the standard deviation for this category is least, which means that most of the people lie in the range near to the mean value. The maximum standard deviation is in the case of black population which tells us that the there is larger deviation of the views in the black population.
(ii). NO: Out of the people saying NO to the statement that the fear of crime is the worst problem in the city ,the average is again highest for the high school graduates, and the Standard deviation again is highest for the black population. The standard deviation for the category of family living in BPL is least, which means that most of the people lie in the range near to the mean value, however the average of the population in this category is the quite less. The maximum standard deviation is again in the case of black population which tells us that the there is larger deviation of the views in the black population.
(iii).UNCERTAIN: Out of the people saying that they are UNCERTAIN to the statement that the fear of crime is the worst problem in the city ,the average is again highest for the high school graduates, and the Standard deviation again is highest for the black population. Again the average population in the category is highest for the college graduates and the SD is highest for the black population. The standard deviation for the category of family living in BPL is least, which means that most of the people lie in the range near to the mean value or the deviation is less for this section of society, however the average of the population in this category is the least.
(iv). TOTAL: The average population in the category is highest for the college graduates and the SD is highest for the black population. The standard deviation in total is least for the sam ecategory that is the college graduates. This means that the overall data is most dense in case of the college graduates and least dense in case of the black population as they have the highest SD for all the four variables.
