Question
Identify a characteristic about a population that you would be interested in studying. For example, you may be interested in studying the amount of time college students spend working. Identify the population that your sample will represent. Describe, using terminology found in chapter 1 of your text, the method you would use to take a sample from your identified population. There are multiple sampling methods. Which method did you choose? Why do you feel this method is appropriate for your study? Describe any potential pitfalls that you anticipate in conducting your survey
Explanation / Answer
Characteristic of interest: Time spent by parents on nursery kids.
Population: Children from a specific region (with identical culture) whose parents are ready to lend their opinion.
Method of sampling: Sampling should be stratified one where children would be stratified on three groups-Both parents are working, at least one is working, no one is working. Then simple random samples should be used in each stratum.
Benefit:This method will lead to a consistent results as startum are homogenous and based on the criteria-'working/non-working'.
The survey might suffer from undercoverage and non-response bias.
