Question

I'm in a Biological Research class and this is one of our homework questions. Note: We use the IBM SPSS program. We have discussed different statistical tests such as ANOVA, MANOVA, ANCOVA, 2 sample t-test, paired t-test, multiple regression, etc...

Can anyone help me answer this questions or help me wrap my head around it? I'M POSTING IT HERE BECAUSE I NEED HELP WITH THE STATISTICAL PART.

Imagine you are designing an experiment to measure the effectiveness of four different insecticides in controlling the emerald ash borer (an introduced beetle that is killing ash trees by the miillions in the U.S.). Your goal is to find the most effective insecticide (or combination of insecticides) to kill these insects. There are some complicating factors: (1) there is geographical variability in vulnerabillity to insecticides in this species (2) effectiveness of some insecticides is influenced by temperature (3) some insecticides are more effective at killing larvae than adults.

Using what you know about statistical analysis and experimental design, describe in detail an experiment (or series of experiments) that address this question and the statistical approach you would take to analyze the data.

MAINLY: WHAT STATISTICAL APPROACH WOULD I USE TO ANALYZE THIS EXPERIMENT? Thanks!

SINCE WE HAVE MORE THAN 2 INSECTICIDES ( SAMPLES ) WE NEED TO USE ANOVA TO SEE WHICH IS MORE EFFECTIVE OR WHAT INSECTICIDES ARE MORE EFFECTIVE THAN OTHERS
