Question
Two experimental treatments have been developed for patients with chronic migraines. Patients are given either treatment 1 or treatment 2, and then they are observed. Each patient is considered either “cured” (no migraines for 3 months after treatment) or “not cured”. A total of 16 patients were sampled. Which test(s) would you use to determine if one of the treatments is more effective? (Thank you)
Possible Tests
Independent samples t-test
One sample t-test
Paired samples t-test
ANOVA
Kruskal Wallis Test
Signed Rank Test
Rank Sum Test
Chi-Square Test
Fisher Exact Test
Linear regression
Shapiro-Wilke Test
Explanation / Answer
Chi-Square test can be used to test which of the two test is more effective .
As the test is to test effectiveness of treatment1 or treatment2 on sample of size 16 paitents and the outcome is cured or not cured, then a contingency table can be formed in rows we can keep treatment1 and treatement 2 and columns can be formed of cured and not cured. The total count of table would be 16 and further chi-square test can be performed to check one of the test is effective or not.
So the hypothesis will H0: One of the test is effective. vs H1:One of the test is not effective.
On the basis of p-vale reject or dont reject the hypothesis and conclude the same.
