Question

Two experimental vehicles are being driven at a constant tangential acceleration. To test their braking ability, the drivers each press the brake as hard as they can at the same time. What is the final velocity of each vehicle? Assuming they both started at the same place, which vehicle traveled the furthest?

Explanation / Answer

Solution for the furthest traveled vehical-

Vehical A)-

a = 0.003858 m/s2 U = 27.78 m/s t= 7200 sec

Than-

SA = Ut + 1/2at2

SA = (27.78)*(7200) + 1/2(0.003858)*(7200)2

SA = 200016 + 99999.36

SA = 300015.36 m

SA = 300.015 Km

Vehical B)-

a = 0.004243 m/s2 U = 41.67 m/s t= 7200 sec

SB = Ut + 1/2at2

SB = (41.67)*(7200) + 1/2(0.004243)*(7200)2

SB = 300024 + 109978.56

SB = 410002.56 m

SB = 410.002 Km

By comparing both the distance, we will get Vehical B will get further.
