It is to my belief that a history of early America should include an active remembering and studying of the past to include historical injustices. Injustices serve as a reminder of how far that America and the world has come and how much further it needs to go when dealing with injustices such as slavery and genocide. "One approach, Option A, is to call it even, not dwell on the past, and move forward" (Streich 2002). Although I believe in not dwelling on the past and that if one opts to dwell on what ever has already happened it could possibly take away from the time and energy that could be devoted to achieving things in the future. But I think we need to study the past in order to understand what needs to be done in the future to make this country equal and just, no matter the background of an individual.  

I do not think that there will ever be a shared collective memory of early America because of the fact different communities disagree on whether to remember or forget the past while also taking strong sides on the matter. "The Library of Congress shut down a new exhibit titled "Back of the Big House: The Cultural Landscape of the Plantation" Curated by John Michael Vlach, the exhibit was meant to show the slaves perspective on the plantation (Nicholson 1995). Hours after the exhibit opened, however, a group of black employees found the exhibit offensive and demanded the exhibit's closure. David Nicholson, a black editor for the Washington Post, condemned the shut down was irresponsible" (Franklin 1997). Historical injustices cause people to take extreme stances within the same community as seen in the examples that where used in Maria Franklin's "Power to the People" passage.  

Without archaeology, history would be passed down from generation to generation via word of mouth, with no actual evidence of what the real story was. This would lead us to be studying and learning distorted information from the past. Archaeology paints a real picture of history through the discovery of artifacts, features, and ecofacts. Archaeologists then take the material that was collected and analyze it in order to create a middle range theory. "

Explanation / Answer

Remembering the past is not to dwell in it. We like to remember those past moments that gave a sense of pride or glory, and we don't call it to dwell in the past. But, when we point out a bitter memory, we tend to avoid it by calling dwelling in the past. We must remember our past bitter incidents to take lessons from them, so that they are not repeated in the present and future. This would make the society strong, and then we need not project an image, but, we would really be a strong society.

The archeological evidence are the facts that gives history it's validity and authenticity. Without the archeological evidences, history would be a myth and a confused story of the past.
