Question
This week you learned about technology and young children from multiple sources. STEM curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) should be occurring in young children's daily life experiences. The Boston Children's Museum provides its "STEM Sprouts" Training Guide which explains STEM learning guidelines and demonstrates intentional teaching. The guide is filled with many, engaging and exciting activities that bring STEM to life for children, families and teachers. As preparation for our discussion forum:
On your own, explore the STEM Sprouts Teaching Guide to gain a working knowledge of the four integrated fields of study.
Identify one activity with a young child between the ages of 3 and 8 years old.
Post the following in your discussion thread:
The title of the activity and specific field (i.e., Science, Technology, Engineering or Math)
What does the activity teach you about STEM and its application in early childhood education?
Discuss with classmates: Are the activities developmentally appropriate for young children? Why or why not?

What does the activity teach you about STEM and its application in early childhood education?
STEM is an teaching activity, which had been used by the US government that had helped the immigrants to get work visas, . This had been incorporated in the curriculum, where STEM stands for Science, technology, engineering and maths. Science would be used to explore natural materials such as sand and water and would make the child explore the various aspects of life. The children would use a magnifying glass to look through the rocks, soil as well as legs of a bug. Technology help children to look through simple materials such as pulleys and wheels. Engineering would allow the children to learn to build small structures as well as design them. Math activities would help child count and make patterns.
Science activities
Science activities are very important for the child since it helps the child to develop basic activities. The child develops basic skills of observation such that they would be encouraged to say out loud whatever they notice and these are used to compare results such that they could question everything and their inquisitive nature would be developed. Also, this would encourage them to post answers. Such that we could ask the child to try the activity such as
- bubbles have one shape: the child can be asked to make a bubble solution with the help of a dish soap. The child would be gold to make bubbles with different odd shaped structures like cookie cutters or a string of loop. The Children have to be taught how to dip object in water and how to blow to make the bubble. The students have to be asked to blow both fast and slow and they would be asked which method is better. They would be asked what the shape of the bubble would be and it would be explained to the kids that whatever the shape of the object is, bubbles would be round.
